Tuesday mornings are typically spent shuttling Isabelle to speech and OT appointments if I’m not working in a school or attending a conference.
This morning, I dropped Isabelle at school around 11:00 a.m. — after her appointments — and felt bizarre parental pride when I noticed her using her elbow, rather than her hand, to open the automatic doors. (Apparently, my mild germaphobic tendencies has rubbed off on her — just a bit.) Ari was asleep so I headed home. I expected to unload the car and head into the house quickly. But that didn’t happen since Ari didn’t wake up when we pulled into the garage. Instead, I am listening to MSNBC while the little guy snores lightly in the backseat.
I’ve been sitting in the garage — thankful our WiFi works out here — for the past half-hour. This will come to an end soon since I have a medical procedure for my neck and shoulder at 1:00 p.m. and I have to get going soon. However, I’ve decided to let Ari sleep as long as possible since he must be wiped out since he didn’t wake up when I shut off the engine.
So here we are… hanging out in the garage.
I love that you are sitting in your garage working just so Ari gets to sleep a little longer. The things we do to make sure little ones sleep. At least you can get some work done.
It actually sounds like a peaceful moment for both of you.
I remember doing that! One day early on I took C for a walk, and she fell asleep. I was so exhausted I was afraid to take her out of the stroller but I needed a nap! So I dragged the whole stroller up about 6 steps onto the back deck, then went through the sliding door. It took me 15 minutes easy. As soon as I was on the couch, she woke up.
You have to take the quiet moments any way you can get them!
Silence selfie! I remember those days and yes, you do – YOU stay in the car or it’s right back to the mommy grind… hope the procedure went well 🙂
Wise mommas use the moments they are given. Not only are you letting him get some needed sleep, but you can cross ‘slice today’ off of your to-do list. (Hope your procedure went well.)
That is fantastic. Sometimes peaceful spots come as surprises! Your little guy got some more zzz’s, and you had a comfortable spot to watch over him and relax a little bit. I love that your little slice of today made a memory in the garage, of all places.
Whenever and wherever you can catch a moment to reflect or just to have some quiettude and solitude…that’s valuable found time!
Mom’s do what they need to do to use that gift of time. Well done!
Yes, those little gifts of extra time are refreshing, and you used yours so wisely-to slice.
Your post reminded me of how many times that I have sat in my car to write because it is often the quietest place! Quiet can sometimes be the most dreamy!
Quiet cars are perfect for reading and writing!
One of my favorite phrases I share with my grown sons is, the best gift you can give someone is the gift of time. That is what you have done for your precious son. : )
The gift of time is one of the best gifts!
I love that you shared this moment with all of us. Sometimes I pull into the driveway at home, and I just want to listen to the rest of a song before I re-enter life at home. Glad you took some time for yourself and let Ari snooze a bit longer. Ahhhh!
He’s been falling asleep in the car a lot more lately. Not sure why!
