You had me at macaron!

“I know I can’t bring bagels anymore because you’re gluten-free,” my friend Rachel said. “What are you craving from New York that you can eat?”

I pondered for a moment. During my silence Rachel listed off several ideas. When she said macarons (and then added that there were even better than Ladurée, which she introduced me to in December), I was sold.

This afternoon, Rachel arrived on my doorstep from New York with a warm smile, an ear for listening, am overnight bag, and macarons from Martine’s Fine Bake Shoppe.

Clockwise from top left: Nutella, vanilla, raspberry, & salted caramel.

There’s nothing better than good food shared with a great friend.

    1. Rachel and I see each other 2-3 times a year. It isn’t enough. Once upon a time, we lived in the same apartment building when we were in college and the six blocks apart when we lived in Manhattan.

  1. “There’s nothing better than good food shared with a great friend.” So true! Probably feels/felt like a special treat to have her visit. Hope the time is savored 🙂

  2. Truth be told I have never had a macaron, and your slice is making me realize that I might need to try one – or two.
Sounds like you are in for a great visit with a wonderful friend.

  3. Great friends and great food are an unbeatable combination. Those macarons look amazing. It’s okay if you didn’t share them; they’d be gone in six minutes if I were the recipient.
    Enjoy your visit.

  4. A sweet story! For a long time, I did not know the difference between macaroons (coconut-based) and macarons (meringue-based). I definitely prefer macarons! Enjoy your time together!

  5. Oh those look great! I was visiting my sister in Pittsburgh this weekend, and I nearly stopped into a macaron shop because someone had posted about them on National Macaron Day, and they had looked beautiful!

  6. I loved reading this and everyone’s kind comments about friendship. I am lucky to have Stacey as a friend for over 20 years… and devouring macarons in 4.6 seconds are the cherry on top of it 🙂

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment below.
