Ever since Isabelle was able to express herself, she’s worn her hair a little above her shoulders with a bow holding back her bangs. Last week, for whatever reason, Isabelle declared she wanted to get a shorter haircut when we visited Joy at her new salon. (I’ve followed my hair stylist to four salons now. When you find someone who cuts curly hair well AND will cut your curly daughter’s hair too, you follow her everywhere!) And so, here’s a before, during, and after from Isabelle’s big cut (which I LOVE!):Bye-bye shoulder-length hair.A little iPad time while drying under an infrared dryer.

Awwww. I remember getting perms under those dryers back when I was 7, 8, 9. My mom said that’s when I decided to pay attention to that part about me finally. I can’t believe how fast Isabelle has aged! Even with the filter she looks so old but still adorably sweet. How surreal and wonderful for you.
It’s so freeing to be able to choice your own hairstyle. Ever since my daughter had an opinion she’s chosen her own hairstyle. I also know what you mean about your hairdresser. We moved but I still drive 2 1/2 hours every 5 weeks so my guy can cut my hair. Crazy. I know. Lol
While our daughter is a bit older, when she came back from college, she said, “I want a change.” She has beautiful blonde hair which flowed over her shoulders and down her back. She came back having cut 12″ inches, which she donated to Locks of Love. She’s now says, “Taking care if my hair is SO MUCH EASIER now!” Choice is always important, no matter how old you are! 🙂
When I read your teaser which included the words “The Big Cut’ and no pink tails for awhile, I was so afraid that Isabelle had cut her own hair. Relieved that it was a planned cut. It looks so cute!
LOVE the cut! My girls wore their hair somewhere between Isabelle’s before and after and ALWAYS bow! I laugh now when my oldest still wears her hair clipped the side, no bow thank goodness!
Love when kids make their own choices. You’re a great mommy for allowing her to do so. It’s a cute cut!!

I bet she felt all grown up.

I used to fly to Washington 3x/year when I lived in RI to see one of my doctors and get my hair cut. Thank goodness for cheap Southwest airfares.

Thanks for your slice today!
It’s so freeing to cut your hair, I think — and I love that she had the choice. It looks great too!
Love her new look! I know it’s hard to control sometimes, but she really does have great hair.
She is a big girl now making decisions on her look. Love the cut.
Aw! So cute. I don’t know much about curly hair, but you two have some of the most beautiful hair I know!
Love Isabelle’s independence and new look! As you know, Megan cut her own pigtails last fall. We are still working on growing them back….
I had no idea that happened, Kathleen. Fwiw, I love her short ‘do. It’s on-trend!
Love it — thanks for keeping us updated.

Looks very cute, hope Isabelle loves it, too!

Yes, very much planned. We had a long talk, once the scissors got left out, about never ever cutting hair with them.
