This was the question I asked an acquaintance of mine around 7:45 p.m. this evening after I finished a 2.5 hour long seminar. I asked the question sarcastically. She seemed to think it did. In fact, she nudged me to start this blog, which is something I have been thinking about for the past few months.
Yes. The world does need another blog about reading to children. Why? Because there are plenty of parents out there who have questions about leading their children on a literacy journey. And then there are plenty of parents out there who need a push to read to their children more. I know I won’t be able to change the way all parents read to their children. While I’m a certified literacy specialist, I’m not a reading specialist. There are plenty of people who know more about reading than I do. I’m very willing to admit that. However, I love books and I love my daughter who is presently 13 months old. What better way to explore my love of literature and family than blogging about the two together.
So, yes. The world needs this blog. It’s going to be a blog about the books I read to my daughter and the way I help her to read the world at-large. I might touch a little bit on theory and bring in some funny stories, but mostly I hope to stay focused on the joy of reading to a developing reader. I’m not the first mom to start a blog about reading to my child and I sure won’t be the last. But, I’ve found, through the years, that if it’s important to you, then it’s important to write about. So here I am.
